EXPLORE THE NATURAL BEAUTY

The Slopes

There are many sites extolling its virtues (try Banskoblog) but the basic facts are – it has a wonderful snow record, 70 kms of pisted runs (5 blues, 11 reds and 2 blacks), plenty of off piste for those who are more adventurous, resort height 936 metres, top station, 2600 metres, over 50 percent of slopes are covered by snow cannons and for those who simply can’t get enough, there is floodlit night skiing!

Summer TRIP

EXPLORE THE NATURAL BEAUTY

Old Bankso

Bansko is a very different animal in the summer, the official ‘close’ season, and it allows its other charms to come to the fore. Spend time exploring the old Bansko, where the old folk sit in their traditional dress outside their houses on the cobbled streets, preparing vegetables or simply watching the world go by. Watch the farmers drive their stock along the streets. (Bansko must be one of the few places in the world where goats are herded along in front of the town’s five star hotel!)

The mountains

Although the snow disappears, the magical Pirin mountains do not. The Pirin National Park has been a listed UNESCO site since 1983 and has been on the UN list of National parks since 1997. Its diversity of wildlife is stunning. For the energetic there are many mountain biking trails (and shops in Pirin street to supply maps, bikes and equipment with whom I am trying to arrange discount for guests) . For walkers who enjoy the superb scenery from the mountain summits but choose not to walk all of the way, the ski lift operates a limited service throughout the summer.
